德州市

Northwestern Shandong city on the Grand Canal and the Beijing-Shanghai railway. Best known nationally for 德州扒鸡 (Dezhou braised chicken), one of China's three most famous cooked-chicken dishes and a classic train-platform snack. Tomb of Sultan Paduka Pahala of Sulu (苏禄东王墓), who died here on a 1417 tribute mission, is a reminder of Ming maritime diplomacy. Name entirely unrelated to Dezhou (Texas) — that US state is 德克萨斯州 or 德州 only as short form in betting/gambling contexts like 德州扑克 (Texas Hold'em).
