章炳麟 (Zhāng Bǐnglín);
太炎 was his courtesy name. Imprisoned by the Qing in 1903 over the
苏报案 (Su Bao incident) for revolutionary writing alongside Zou Rong. A philological master who taught Lu Xun (
鲁迅), Qian Xuantong (
钱玄同), and many other May Fourth figures — bridging classical scholarship and revolutionary politics.
