Real name (Zhāng Bǐnglín); was his courtesy name. Imprisoned by the Qing in 1903 over the 报案 (Su Bao incident) for revolutionary writing alongside Zou Rong. A philological master who taught Lu Xun (鲁迅), Qian Xuantong (), and many other May Fourth figures — bridging classical scholarship and revolutionary politics.
