Founded in 2000 by 李彦宏 (Robin Li). The name comes from a line by the Song poet 辛弃疾: 众里寻他千百度 'I searched for her in the crowd a thousand times', a fitting image for a search engine.
usage
Like 'google' in English, it works as a verb: 百度一下 'look it up online'.
