In TCM, 湿热 is one of the six external pathogens (六淫) plus an internal imbalance pattern, blamed for skin rashes, mouth ulcers, oily skin, and loose stools in southern China. Hence the summer popularity of 祛湿 (damp-clearing) herbal soups.
