Three components capture the clinical picture: 风湿 (rheum-, joint-related) + 热 (fever). Distinguish from 风湿病 (fēngshībìng — chronic rheumatic disease, e.g. rheumatoid arthritis): 风湿热 is the acute post-strep illness.
