Named for how it is made — steamed glutinous rice is pounded (打) in a wooden trough with a heavy mallet until smooth and sticky. A signature food of the Korean-Chinese (朝鲜族) communities in Jilin's Yanbian, and the Chinese cognate of Korean 떡 tteok.
