Tips

usage
In a Chinese garden, 峰 names a single tall upright rock that stands in for a mountain peak. 冠云 means 'topping the clouds': 冠 is read guàn here, the verb 'to cap', not guān 'hat'.
culture
At about 6.5 metres it is one of the tallest garden rocks in China, and it is said to date from the Song dynasty. Connoisseurs judge a 太湖石 by four qualities, 瘦, 皱, 漏 and 透 (slender, wrinkled, holed and see-through), and this stone is often held up as having all four.
