Recorded in《十六国春秋·后赵录》: the original name was 胡饼, but ruler Shi Le, sensitive to the word 胡 (referring to his own ethnicity), renamed it 抟炉; Shi Hu later renamed it 麻饼 — the name has stuck ever since. Classic variants: 合肥麻饼, 宁波麻饼.
