Tips

history
From the 1960s to the early 1980s, farmers were given a few months of medical training under the commune 合作医疗 scheme and sent back to treat common illnesses, give injections and vaccinate, while still farming part of the time. The name comes from working barefoot in the rice paddies. In 1985 the title became 乡村医生 (village doctor).
