culture
谷雨 literally means 'grain rain' — the spring rains now fall heavily enough to nourish newly planted grains. Tea picked before this term is called (yǔqián chá) and is highly prized.
history
Traditionally also commemorated as the day Cangjie () invented Chinese characters — legend says grain fell from the sky when the gods recognized the feat. The UN made April 20 'Chinese Language Day' to mark this.
