Calculated from the sun's position on the ecliptic, the 24 solar terms divide the solar year into ~15-day periods and guided traditional agriculture. UNESCO inscribed them as Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2016. The terms come in pairs of starts (
立春/
立夏/
立秋/
立冬), equinoxes/solstices (
春分/
秋分/
夏至/
冬至), and climate markers (
芒种,
大雪 etc.).
