Cai Xiang is grouped with Su Shi 苏轼, Huang Tingjian 黄庭坚, and Mi Fu 米芾 as the 宋四家 ('Four Masters of the Song'). He also designed the Wan'an Bridge 万安桥 in Quanzhou and wrote 茶录, an early treatise on tea.
