history
Paper existed before him, as finds from the Western Han show; he improved the method and made it practical. He presented it to the court in 105, and after he was made a marquis people called it 蔡侯纸 'Marquis Cai's paper'. Papermaking counts as one of China's 四大发明 (Four Great Inventions).
