萨达姆·侯赛因

萨达姆·侯赛因·阿卜杜勒-马吉德·提克里蒂 was Iraq's strongman from 1979 until the U.S. invasion in 2003. He launched the Iran-Iraq War (两伊战争) in 1980, invaded Kuwait in 1990 triggering the Gulf War (海湾战争), and was captured in December 2003 hiding in a 'spider hole' near Tikrit. He was hanged on 30 December 2006. In Chinese media, 萨达姆 alone usually suffices — surname-first 侯赛因 alone is ambiguous because it is also King Hussein of Jordan (约旦的侯赛因国王).

Arabic 'Saddam' means 'one who confronts'. The middle dot · separates given name (萨达姆) from surname (侯赛因), the standard Chinese convention for foreign personal names.
