昔人已乘黄鹤去，
此地空余黄鹤楼。
黄鹤一去不复返，
白云千载空悠悠。
晴川历历汉阳树，
芳草萋萋鹦鹉洲。
日暮乡关何处是？
烟波江上使人愁 (The ancient one rode off on the yellow crane; this place is left with only the Tower. The yellow crane once gone returns no more; white clouds drift empty a thousand years. Sunlit on the river, Hanyang's trees in bright rows; fragrant grasses lush on Parrot Isle. At dusk — where is my home? Mist on the river saddens the heart). Li Bai is said to have declined to inscribe a poem at the tower after reading Cui's.
