From Cui Hao's Tang-dynasty poem 《黄鹤楼》: 昔人已乘黄鹤去, 此地空余黄鹤楼. 晴川历历汉阳树, 芳草萋萋鹦鹉洲. The poem mourns the vanished immortal and ends on homesickness; Li Bai is said to have declined to inscribe a poem at the tower after reading it.
usage
萋萋 means lush or luxuriant (a classical reduplicative). 鹦鹉洲 is Parrot Isle in the Yangtze at Wuhan, named for the Han-dynasty rhapsody 《鹦鹉赋》. Canonically paired with 晴川历历汉阳树.
