From 毛泽东 《七绝·为李进同志题所摄庐山仙人洞照》 (Mao Zedong, September 1961, on a photograph of Mount Lu's Immortal's Cave taken by 李进, Jiang Qing's pen name): 暮色苍茫看劲松, 乱云飞渡仍从容. 天生一个仙人洞, 无限风光在险峰 (In the vast dusk I gaze on sturdy pines; the tangled clouds rush past, yet they stand composed. Nature made this Immortal's Cave, the boundless view lies on the perilous peak). Written during the Sino-Soviet split and early famine years, the poem became a symbol of holding firm against external pressure.
usage
Pairs with 乱云飞渡仍从容 (the tangled clouds sweep past, yet it stands composed). Together the couplet is one of Mao's most anthologized. 劲 is read jìng here (meaning 'strong, sturdy'), not jìn.
