Named after Korla (库尔勒), the second-largest city in Xinjiang. The pear has China's 'geographical indication' protection: the combination of Tarim Basin sunlight, glacial meltwater irrigation, and huge day-night temperature swings produces its signature perfume. Peak season is September to October; gift boxes are a common autumn holiday present.
