grammar
希望 can be followed directly by a clause: 希望你开心 (I hope you're happy). Unlike English, no 'that' is needed.
mistakes
希望 is for realistic wishes. For unrealistic or hypothetical wishes, use 但愿 (dànyuàn). Don't use 希望 for past events that can't change.
