The Song state ran its own pharmacies, which made up medicines to fixed recipes and sold them. Their formulary, first issued in the late 11th century, was revised as the
和剂局方 and given its full name in 1151, when the shops became the
太平惠民局. Its final edition has 788 formulas, among them
藿香正气散 and
四物汤, both still in use.
