Four-substance decoction, recorded in the Song-dynasty
《太平惠民和剂局方》, contains four herbs:
当归 (Chinese angelica),
川芎 (Sichuan lovage),
白芍 (white peony) and
熟地黄 (prepared rehmannia). It is the foundation formula for tonifying blood (
补血), especially for women's health.
