Someone gave a whistle from the far end of the platform.
Tips
usage
The northern spoken form of 口哨, the same word, with the 儿 normally dropped in writing. Either way it means a sound made with the lips, and the verb that goes with it is 吹, to blow. A physical whistle on a lanyard is a 哨子.
mistakes
The 儿 is not a syllable of its own. 口哨儿 has two syllables, kǒu-shàor, with the r colouring the end of the second one, never kǒu-shào-ér.
