After his owner died, Hachikō went to the station every day to wait for him, and kept it up for nearly ten years.
Tips
usage
The name copies the Japanese ハチ公 (Hachikō): 八 for hachi "eight", and 公 for -kō, an affectionate honorific. A bronze statue of him outside 涩谷站 (Shibuya Station) is one of Tokyo's best-known meeting spots.
mistakes
八公山 in Anhui is unrelated: it is the hill where, in 383, the beaten army of 苻坚 took every bush for an enemy soldier, the origin of 草木皆兵.
