history

健康码 was introduced in Hangzhou in February 2020 and quickly rolled out nationwide. Color-coded (绿码 green / 黄码 yellow / 红码 red), it gated access to transport, venues and workplaces during the pandemic. Most city versions were deactivated at the end of 2022.
