Tips
usage
不负 is formal and lives in set phrases: 不负众望 (to live up to everyone's hopes), 不负所托 (to do what one was trusted to do) and the slogan 不负韶华 (to make the most of one's best years).
mistakes
Don't confuse it with 不孚众望, which means the opposite. 孚 is 'to inspire trust', so that idiom is 'to fail to win public confidence', while 负 is 'to let down', so 不负 is 'not to let down'.
