青木

青木 (Aoki, あおき) is a common Japanese surname meaning 'green tree'. Notable bearers include the architect Jun Aoki (青木淳, designer of Louis Vuitton flagship stores), DJ Steve Aoki (史蒂夫·青木), and MMA fighter Shinya Aoki (青木真也). When written for a Chinese context, the same Kanji are read in Mandarin as Qīngmù.

When transliterating Japanese names, Chinese keeps the original kanji and reads them with Mandarin pronunciation rather than imitating the Japanese sound. So 青木 stays 青木 (not 阿奥基).
