Tips

history
Son of the general 赵奢, he could out-argue his father on strategy, but his father warned that he would ruin Zhao if he ever led its army. In 260 BC Zhao replaced the veteran 廉颇 with him, partly because of rumours spread by Qin. Surrounded by 白起, he was shot dead trying to break out.
usage
His story is the source of 纸上谈兵, 'to discuss war on paper', and his name stands for anyone who knows the theory but has never done the thing.
