Linguistics term. Liánmián words split into three subtypes by sound pattern:
双声 shuāngshēng (alliterating, e.g.
玲珑 línglóng),
叠韵 diéyùn (rhyming, e.g.
徘徊 páihuái), and
非双声叠韵 (neither, e.g.
蝴蝶 húdié). The defining property is that the word is one morpheme written with two characters — neither character carries the meaning by itself.
