The battle, 淝水之战, left two idioms. Before it, 苻坚 looked out at the hills from the city wall and took every tree and bush for an enemy soldier: 草木皆兵. After it, his fleeing men heard pursuers in the wind and in the cries of cranes: 风声鹤唳.
