14th-century novel traditionally attributed to Shi Nai'an (施耐庵). One of the 四大名著 alongside 三国演义, 西游记, and 红楼梦. Based on the historical Song Jiang rebellion (c. 1121), it follows 108 outlaws who gather at Liangshan Marsh (梁山泊) and eventually accept imperial amnesty. Key figures include Song Jiang, Lu Zhishen, Wu Song, and Lin Chong. Adapted for TV most famously in 1998 (CCTV).
