出自李白《赠汪伦》：“李白乘舟将欲行，忽闻岸上踏歌声。桃花潭水深千尺，不及汪伦送我情。”桃花潭在今安徽泾县。汪伦是当地隐士，以美酒款待李白，临别踏歌相送，李白作此诗答谢。“桃花潭水”成为送别情深的经典意象。
