未 (wèi — 'not yet') + 成 (chéng — 'to complete') is a compact literary negation. 未成 reads more formally than 没完成; you'll meet it in titles (未成稿 'unfinished draft'), set phrases, and in 未成年 (under-age, lit. 'not yet of full age').
