Meanings

Both characters carry a sense of uncertainty. Together they form a slightly more literary "perhaps" than 也许.

Huòxǔ tā yǐjīng zǒu le.

Perhaps he has already left.

Huòxǔ wǒmen kěyǐ shì yīxià.

Maybe we could give it a try.

Huòxǔ míngtiān huì xià yǔ.

Perhaps it will rain tomorrow.

usage

或许 and 也许 (yěxǔ) are interchangeable in most cases. 或许 sounds slightly more formal or literary.
