Guangxi became an autonomous region for the Zhuang (壮族) - China's largest ethnic minority - in 1958. Short name 桂, from 桂林 the historic prefecture. Bordering Vietnam to the southwest, it is famous for karst scenery (Guilin, Yangshuo) and for the annual 三月三 Zhuang song festival.
