Agoraphobia is often accompanied by panic attacks.
Tips
memory
Reads literally as 'plaza-fear-illness,' a calque of Greek agora ('marketplace, plaza') + phobia. The 症 suffix marks medical conditions — pair with 抑郁症 (yìyùzhèng, 'depression'), 失眠症 (shīmiánzhèng, 'insomnia').
mistakes
Don't confuse with 幽闭恐惧症 (yōubì kǒngjùzhèng, 'claustrophobia') — that's the opposite phobia (closed spaces). Note also that mainland clinical writing usually says 广场恐惧症 (with 惧 instead of 怖); 广场恐怖症 is the variant CC-CEDICT records.
