From 孟浩然《过故人庄》(Meng Haoran, 'Visiting an Old Friend's Farmstead,' High Tang, early 8th c.): 故人具鸡黍，邀我至田家...开轩面场圃，把酒话桑麻。待到重阳日，还来就菊花 (My old friend prepared chicken and millet, invited me to his farm... We opened the window onto the threshing ground and garden, with wine we spoke of mulberries and hemp. When the Double Ninth comes, I'll return for the chrysanthemums). A beloved vision of the Tang pastoral ideal.
