Tips

usage
Pure phonetic assimilation: the sentence-final particle 啊 automatically shifts to 哪 after any syllable ending in -n. Compare 好 + 啊 → hǎo a, but 天 + 啊 → 天哪. Identical function (warmth, exclamation, mild emphasis) - different spelling reflects the -n carrying into the vowel.
mistakes
This is NOT the question word 哪 ('which / where'). Position and tone separate them: question 哪 is third-tone and sits BEFORE a noun or classifier; emphatic 哪 is toneless and sits at the END of a sentence as a softener or cry. If you see 哪 sentence-finally after a -n syllable, read it as the 啊 particle.

Components

radical
口 kǒu
mouth
Left indexing mouth radical 口 (Kangxi #30). Marks 哪 as a spoken word - a question particle that comes out of the mouth rather than naming a thing. Same radical anchors all the interrogative and exclamatory chars: 吗, 呢, 啊, 嗯, 哎.
phonetic
那 nà
that
Right component supplies the sound: 那 (nà) → nǎ (just a tone shift). Adds a tight semantic flavour too: 那 means 'that, over there,' so 口 + 那 reads as 'speaking the that-question' = 'which?' Same phonetic family with 娜, 挪, 呐.
