Published in 1847, a year before Emily Brontë died. The title is the name of the Earnshaw family's farmhouse on the Yorkshire moors. The Chinese name comes from
杨苡's 1955 translation:
呼啸 'to howl' catches the roar of the wind in 'wuthering', and
山庄 'mountain manor' stands for 'heights'. An earlier translation by
梁实秋 had called it
咆哮山庄 'Roaring Manor'.
