Tips

history
Engaged in a long polemical feud with 鲁迅 (Lu Xun) in the late 1920s over the politics of literature - Liang defended 'human-nature' literature against Lu Xun's class-struggle view. After 1949 he lived in Taiwan, where he completed his single-handed 37-year translation of Shakespeare and edited the widely used 远东英汉大辞典 dictionary.
culture
His essay collection 雅舍小品, written in a shabby wartime bungalow in Chongqing, is a classic of modern Chinese prose.
