grammar

之类 comes after a list of examples: A、B之类的C (C such as A, B, and the like). The 的 after 之类 is usually required when followed by a noun.

usage

Similar expressions: 等等 (děngděng, etc.), 什么的 (shénme de, and stuff like that - more colloquial). 之类 is slightly more formal than 什么的.
