After Luoyang fell in 311, Sima Rui re-established the dynasty at Jiankang (, modern Nanjing) — 'Eastern' by capital. The era produced the Orchid Pavilion Preface (《》) and the Battle of Fei River (), where 80,000 Jin troops routed a vastly larger northern army.
