Tips

history
Originally a short riding jacket worn over a robe by Manchu horsemen — hence the name 'horse jacket'. Under the Qing it became formal dress; the 马褂 'yellow magua' granted by the emperor was the highest mark of imperial favour. The modern 唐装 is a direct descendant.
