The hard-pen (
硬笔) branch of Chinese calligraphy — characters written with a fountain pen, ballpoint or gel pen instead of a brush. A whole practice genre in PRC schools, with its own copybooks (
字帖), grading exams, and celebrity practitioners like
庞中华 and
田英章. Contrasts with
软笔书法 (brush calligraphy).
