伯牙 played thinking of mountains, Ziqi said the music was lofty as Mount Tai; when he played thinking of rivers, Ziqi heard rushing water. This is the source of
高山流水 for music, or a friendship, that only a kindred spirit understands, and of
知音 "one who knows the tune" for a true friend.
