Tips

usage
Today survives mainly in 遒劲 ('strong and forceful'), used to praise vigorous brushwork in calligraphy or painting. The older sense 'to draw near / come to an end' is now literary only.

Components

radical
chuò
to walk; movement
The walk radical is written last in stroke order; it adds the 'drawing near / approaching an end' motion that underlies the older meaning.
phonetic
qiú
chieftain; matured wine
supplies the sound qiú; its 'aged, concentrated wine' flavour suits the sense of strength and things reaching full force.
