Tips

history
Goes back to the feudal ritual of regional lords reporting to the Son of Heaven; 《孟子》 already uses 述职 in this sense. Modern corporate usage retains the vertical, formal flavor: a subordinate accounting for their performance to authority.
register
Formal. The written output is a 述职报告 (performance report); 年终述职 = year-end review. Also used in Party and civil-service contexts.
