连天 works three ways. After a noun it means filling the sky or reaching the horizon, as in
炮火连天 (gunfire filling the sky) and
芳草连天 (grass to the horizon), or never stopping, as in
叫苦连天 (endless complaining). Before a verb it means day after day:
连天赶路, to travel for days on end.
