In classical texts it is written 蝳蝐, which is 玳瑁 (hawksbill turtle).
Tips
usage
A bound morpheme: 蝳 does not stand on its own in modern Chinese. Used only in the binome 蝳蝐 (dàimào), a variant of 玳瑁 — the hawksbill sea turtle whose shell was prized for 玳瑁 (tortoiseshell) crafts.
