Bedouin tribes of the Arabian Peninsula kept the Saluki as a noble hunting partner; unlike most dogs in Islamic tradition, it was allowed inside the tent and considered a gift from Allah (هبة). Depictions of Saluki-type sighthounds appear on Egyptian tombs dating back to ~2100 BCE.
