history

Mulan first appears in the《木兰辞》(Mulan Ballad), a Northern Wei dynasty folk poem (c. 5th-6th century). Her surname 'Hua' (花) was added much later in a Ming dynasty play. The Disney and Liu Yifei film versions made her a global icon.
